My espresso machine is not pouring evenly?
I just bought an espresso machine, and in the part where the water pours into the coffee mug, there are two spouts (just in case i want to pour into two different cups). Anyways, one of the spouts starts out pouring but then it starts to drip, whereas the other spout remains a steady stream.
i have made espresso on this thing 5 times so far and its always the same spout that drips, and I have done everything I can to ensure that its packed tightly and distributed evenly when I pack (ie, ‘tamp’) it. The machine comes with a spoon where you use to spoon part to scoop up the ground coffee, and you use the handle of the spoon to pack it in evenly. the handle fits the size of the container that holds the ground coffee so it’s easy to pack it in evenly, or at least so I thought.
Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong? The spout doesn’t appear to have blockage, it also appears to be the same size as the other spout. Thanks for any help,
How to use my espresso machine…?
Ok, so here’s the deal.
I have an espresso machine, it used to be my mom’s and she gave it to me just recently. It’s several years old and hasn’t been used in a while, which I don’t think really matters as long as it’s clean. I ran some water through it to clean it out… but now I don’t honestly know HOW to use it. lol.
I would put my coffee in it but I’m worried if I do it wrong I’ll just waste coffee. PLUS I see people making a big deal out of the pods, which is actually what I THINK I have. They’re espresso roast "individually packaged ground coffee" packets with a little (I’m guessing) pod from Starbucks that my aunt and mom bought me and my roommate as a house warming gift for our apartment. I want to make some espresso with them… but I have no clue what I do with the machine. Which I know makes me sound kiiiinda stupid buuuut I would rather get some advice about how to work it before I go wasting all of our packets of espresso.
It’s a Swift espresso, coffee, cappuccino machine which I’m sure isn’t the most top of the line machine but I’m fairly positive it’ll get the job done as long as I know how to do it right!! The only knob it has is on the side and it goes one way to work the foamer and the other way to make the coffee/espresso.
I would just like some help, or a walkthrough, of the process it takes to make a good espresso shot. I hope I don’t sound TOO ignorant for you coffee connoisseurs. If someone could just tell me exactly what to do to get the best cup of coffee/espresso that would be GREAT!!!
There aren’t any instructions and I’ve looked online for a users manual and can’t find one.
Plus I came upon a comment someone made to someone else saying it’s a crappy machine altogether.
THAT being said…. I still want to know how to make some espresso so I can at least have some BURNT espresso!!
Although thanks Diana, so far you have the best answer!! I think I’ll try it.
I know it sounds stupid, but I just needed that simple walkthrough to make sure what I was thinking was the right thing to do. Especially the amount of water to use.
starbucks espresso roast sugar?
when i buy a bag of starbucks espresso roast ground coffee, it tastes sweeter than most coffee and it says in the description that it is a sweeter coffee. i don’t think they add any sugar or anything, but i want to make sure… are there any sugar / carbs in it or no?
here is the product

Can you take already ground coffee that would be for a percolator and grind the grounds to the espresso level?
Somebody bought me a lot of ground coffee for Christmas, but I want to use it in my espresso machine. So I am hoping I can go to a coffee shop that maybe uses a Burr grinder and grind the ground coffee even finer for use in the espresso machine so that I have better tasting espresso.
If this is not possible, why would it not work? It seems logical to me that you are just grinding a thicker grind down to a finer grind.
Would the grinder (Burr grinder?) somehow get gunked up with the already ground coffee?
All I want to know is this:
Can I grind already ground coffee down to an espresso ground?
I don’t care if my gourmet taste buds will not be enlightened. I just need to know if it is possible and will not mess up the machine used to grind the coffee, which I believe is one of those big red machines and probably a Burr grinder.
Buying espresso beans in bulk…?
Sooo the bistro I work at is still in the opening stages and we haven’t yet gotten the supplies together for espresso beverages yet. I used to work as a barista, so I’ve been delegated the task of getting this together. The part I’m having trouble with is selecting a company to supply our espresso beans, any suggestions? I’m kind of a coffee snob, but the drip coffee that’s served at the restaurant comes in pre-ground bags (it hurts me if I think about it too much) so I guess top-tier gourmet beans aren’t a requisite. Also, should I take the cheap route and buy pre-ground or invest in a decent grinder? How quickly does the quality of pre-ground coffee deteriorate? I’d honestly like to buy from a local roaster (I live in NE OK), but since I probably won’t be able to eke the money out of my boss for high-quality beans, I’m okay with ordering out-of-state.
Thanks
which type of bean for which type of coffee?
I bought my parents an espresso/cappucchino maker for Xmas and would like to ensure they have some ground coffee as well.Nothing too bitter or too bland, just something to start.
Why are there white particles coming out of my coffee maker?
I bought this coffee maker last year, it worked great. I stored it away for the summer and now I’m back at school trying to set it up again. I’ve run it with just water about 5 or 6 times and each time I get little white particles along with black particles in the pot. I’ve rinsed out and wiped the inside of the coffee maker. I don’t have vinegar (and would prefer not to have to go buy some right now). I’m assuming the black particles are little bits of ground coffee but what are the white things and how do I get rid of them??
Can I use ground coffee and tea bags to make a cup of coffee without a coffee maker?
I’ve seen little tea bags filled with coffee before and I was wondering if I could recreate them at home. I think using a coffee maker is a pain in the butt because I don’t like the clean up. Could I still make a cup of coffee if I just filled a tea bag with ground coffee and let it steep as if it were tea? Or would that be too weak?
How do you make coffee using a coffee pot?
I know you have to add the ground coffee and filter, and I did that. But I can’t figure out where to put the water. How do you know where to add the water?
What exactly defines a "cup" of coffee? The amount of ground coffee or the amount of water used to brew?
I enjoy three to four cups of coffee throughout the morning but I have wondered if my "cups" of coffee are equivalent to whatever is the standard in research. I usually measure three or four cups of ground coffee into my drip coffee maker then add six cups of water to run through it to make my coffee. Is it a "cup" of coffee by volume of liquid or by concentration of coffee beans?
Coffee gurus needed! Best espresso machine for a college kid on a budget?
I am a college student, and I work as a barista to help pay for school. I’m entertaining the idea of buying my own small espresso machine, but I don’t really know what kind to get. I’ve only ever used restaurant-grade machines before, and I don’t know what to look for in a small machine. I want it to have a wand, and I want to be able to use ground coffee (no pods).
I see stuff about steam powered vs. pump-powered machines, and shamefully, even though I work in 2 coffeeshops, I don’t know what that means. It sounds to me like pump machines are more powerful than steam-powered ones, but I don’t know if that’s correct.
Also, I need the machine to be cheap…because minimum wage really doesn’t go all that far. So far I like the look of the DeLonghi EC155, which looks like it usually goes for around . Here it is:

Anyway, I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts, since I don’t really know what I’m doing.
Thanks a lot!
