Is there any difference between cheap coffee makers and expensive ones?

You hear from time to time and you would think, given the price that the more expensive ones make better coffee. Are they more expensive because they offer more options or is it because they actually, somehow, make a better cup of coffee?

Italian stovetop espresso maker – to tamp or not to tamp?

My cappuccino maker died a sad death recently (oops, I left it on for about 36 hours). So I’ve hauled out the old aluminum Italian stovetop espresso maker and a nifty plastic milk frother I bought at Ikea. I’m making a tasty coffee, but I’m not tamping too hard – more just pushing a little and leveling off.

Will I get a better cup of coffee if I tamp? I realize I could just give it a try myself, but if it doesn’t work, it takes too darn long to cool that thing off before I can make another cup.

How do you clean coffee spilled on a microfiber couch?

This morning on the way to our week old beige microfiber couch my wife tripped and dropped a full cup of coffee on to the chaise portion. How do you clean it out?

Does brewed coffee rot?

We bought my sister an espresso machine last April, at which time she put her regular carafe coffee machine in her basement until I needed one. Now, in August, I do need one and I got it out and went to make some coffee, but in the carafe there was probably a 1/2 cup of coffee and a bunch of grinds.

Does that stuff mould? How well do I have to clean this carafe before it’s safe for me to make a cup of coffee in it? So far I’ve scrubbed it with a brush and regular dish soap. Seems clean, but I’m worried about bacteria.

How do I open the brew basket of a cv2 hotel coffee maker?

I am staying in a hotel. I feel like making a nice hot cup of coffee, so I walked over to the coffee maker. I looked at the back of the coffee grinds, and it says place in brew basket. It is silver and says "cv2" on it, but I can’t get it open. The coffee pack doesn’t say anything, I don’t see a button, and I can’t open it with my fingers. Help me!

Help for short survey on Coffee Drinking habits…?

Hi all coffee drinkers, need your kind help to answer some questions regarding your coffee drinking habits… It’s for my project… Thanks very much…

1) Why do you drink coffee? To wake up, perk up, etc…

2) What type of coffee do you normally drink? Black, latte, espresso, cappuccino, decaf, etc…

3) On the average, how many cups do you drink everyday?

4) Do you brew your own coffee or do you buy from retailers like Starbucks?

5) What percentage of your income is spent on coffee every month?

6) Are you willing to pay for a cup of coffee that cost more than a Big Mac?

7) Do you drink or will you try flavored coffee? Almond, amaretto, etc…

How much does a cup of coffee increase your blood pressure?

How to use my espresso machine…?

Ok, so here’s the deal.

I have an espresso machine, it used to be my mom’s and she gave it to me just recently. It’s several years old and hasn’t been used in a while, which I don’t think really matters as long as it’s clean. I ran some water through it to clean it out… but now I don’t honestly know HOW to use it. lol.

I would put my coffee in it but I’m worried if I do it wrong I’ll just waste coffee. PLUS I see people making a big deal out of the pods, which is actually what I THINK I have. They’re espresso roast "individually packaged ground coffee" packets with a little (I’m guessing) pod from Starbucks that my aunt and mom bought me and my roommate as a house warming gift for our apartment. I want to make some espresso with them… but I have no clue what I do with the machine. Which I know makes me sound kiiiinda stupid buuuut I would rather get some advice about how to work it before I go wasting all of our packets of espresso.

It’s a Swift espresso, coffee, cappuccino machine which I’m sure isn’t the most top of the line machine but I’m fairly positive it’ll get the job done as long as I know how to do it right!! The only knob it has is on the side and it goes one way to work the foamer and the other way to make the coffee/espresso.

I would just like some help, or a walkthrough, of the process it takes to make a good espresso shot. I hope I don’t sound TOO ignorant for you coffee connoisseurs. If someone could just tell me exactly what to do to get the best cup of coffee/espresso that would be GREAT!!!
There aren’t any instructions and I’ve looked online for a users manual and can’t find one.

Plus I came upon a comment someone made to someone else saying it’s a crappy machine altogether.

THAT being said…. I still want to know how to make some espresso so I can at least have some BURNT espresso!!
Although thanks Diana, so far you have the best answer!! I think I’ll try it.

I know it sounds stupid, but I just needed that simple walkthrough to make sure what I was thinking was the right thing to do. Especially the amount of water to use.

What is my peptic ulcer risk from daily coffee drinking? Doctors help me out, please?

I drink a cup of coffee 1-4 times daily, depending on the day (usually 2 cups). I have recently read in a medical journal that coffee increases the production of gastric acids which can cause peptic ulcers. Does this mean I am at risk for developing ulcers due to my regular coffee consumption?

Advice from MD or DO doctors would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need any extra information? I am a 17 year old hispanic/caucasian male.

How can i make the strongest most rich coffee?

I really love coffee, but i only have a regular Coffee Maker, and for my taste, the coffee is pretty weak both in taste and in quality. Im thinking about buying a Coffee Machine, but i also saw a espresso machine, and i don’t know the difference, nor their prices. And i also have doubts about what type of coffee to buy to get the best cup of coffee that i can make(strongest in taste and wake me up power).I know this is not a serious thing, but i really feel tired of drinking 5 cups of folgers in the morning instead of drinking 1 cup of a good, fresh coffee. Please, only serious answers.
Thanks in advance for taking the time….

Best Coffee Maker Help?

So i want to get my dad a new coffee maker for Christmas (i know a little last minute!!!). so he usually only makes one cup of coffee, but we want one that can make a lot also. He also wants it to have an espresso maker in it. The thing is he’s all "pro-environment" so he doesn’t like the ones where you have to buy those stupid little plastic cups.

so basically what’s the best coffee/espresso maker that can make either single or multiple cups of coffee and is environmentally friendly?

How can I make a coffee with 3 colors ?

I’ve seen in many place a cup of coffee that have 3 layers/phases, each has a different shade of brown.

How can I make such effect in my coffee?

Are there any food additives in coffee besides beans and water?

When you buy a cup of coffee at a store or at a gas station, what do they put in the coffee besides coffee beans and water? For example, I have heard that they put preservatives in coffee sometimes. Can coffee contain any vegetable oil products (such as mono-and-diglycerides?) When I eat things with vegetable oil I am convinced I have an adverse reaction, which I think I can get to a slighter degree from drinking coffee, which is why I asked. I am convinved vegetable oil is very unhealthy.
It disgusts me that I have to ask this question.

Is there any way I can turn regular coffee into decaf coffee?

I really want a nice cup of coffee to help my sore throat but I don’t want to be awake all night. Is there any way I can turn my coffee into decaf?
